What is Join By Text?
Join By Text is a service that lets people sign-up for your email list by sending a text message, but many of our users have found it can be a great way to also get donations at events, at a physical location, or as a call-to-action in traditional media ads (print, radio, TV, etc.)
Your sign, business card, or ad copy would say something like “To make a donation text DONATE to 12345!” After texting your keyword you could give them a link to your mobile-friendly donation page and also ask for their email address (see example).
How Do I Setup this Service?
First, when signing up for your free trial, you will pick a keyword your users will text to a five-digit number to sign up for your list. This should be one word and preferably a word that’s easy to spell.
After creating your keyword you will edit the first response message inside your Join By Text account giving your audience a link to your mobile donation page (example above). You may want to use a service like www.bitly.com to shorten the link and track the number of clicks.
Can I also get their Email Address?
Yes! In the example above your audience has the option of linking to your mobile donation page and also replying with their email address if they’re not ready to donate. If you will be asking for their email address you can connect your keyword to one of our supported email marketing platforms (MailChimp, etc.) or you can simply download the emails later inside your Join By Text account (CSV file).
What is the Cost?
After the 14-day free trial the Starter Plan will let you capture up to 500 email addresses per month, or if you’re not asking for their email address it will let you link 1,000 people to your mobile donation page each month.
