STEP 1: Promote Your Keyword Offline
The single most effective way to grow your email list using Join By Text is to consistently advertise/promote your keyword to your target audience and capture signups in real-time. Ideas include:
- asking attendees to sign up at the end of a presentation/speech
- adding persuasive signage at the point of sale (including why people would want to sign up)
- encouraging listeners to text the keyword during TV or radio commercials
- incorporating a call-to-action in brochures and print advertisements
Remember: Every touch point with your target audience is a chance to increase leads and opportunities for engagement. To grow your email list and get the most ROI from your Join By Text account, you’ll need to advertise/promote your keyword.
STEP 2: Give People an Incentive to Join Your Email List
Don’t assume your target audience will automatically want to sign up for your email list—you’ve got to give them something that will make it worth their while.
- entering a contest or drawing
- accessing free downloads (ex. article, whitepaper, case study, etc.)
- receiving a discount on products or services
- getting exclusive news or updates that are valuable to your audience
Finding the right incentive can take a little experimentation. If you find your target audience isn’t responding to a specific offer, try something else. Once you’ve established a baseline, you can then compare/contrast different offers to identify which one generates the most email signups.
STEP 3: Monitor Campaign Performance
Once you start promoting your new text-to-join campaign, be sure to monitor your email signups and tweak your promotional efforts as necessary based on your unique goals.
You can monitor your email signups inside the email marketing platform you’ve integrated with (Mailchimp for example) or you can download the email signups inside your Join By Text account by clicking the “Download Emails” link below your keyword on the “Responses” page inside your account.
When you feel like you have enough data, you can then identify additional opportunities to advertise/promote your keyword. If you’re promoting your keyword at events you can adjust the incentive and how you are drawing attention to your campaign. If you have a brick-and-mortar storefront you could revisit the process with your front-line employees based on their interactions with customers.
